Internet 'in running' for Nobel Peace Prize - BBC →

‘The New Nice’ for real, I guess.
“The internet is among a record 237 individuals and organisations nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize…
The internet’s nomination has been championed by the Italian version of Wired magazine for helping advance “dialogue, debate and consensus”…”
(BBC)
Some thoughts on this:
The Internet did not do good. The people who use the...

Nick Merrill: nerdcore is avoiding that
Nick Merrill: nerdcore is the conscious choice
Nick Merrill: the ability to be different
Nick Merrill: and the choice to not be.

Scavenger Hunt
Today was the Freshman scavenger hunt for my dorm, FroSoCo. We woke up at an absurd hour (6am for those who are counting), and biked down to the edge of campus. After a brief breakfast of bagels and cream cheese, we walked over to the train station to catch a train to San Francisco. I got put in a group for the scavenger hunt with 5 people that I actually already knew reasonably well, but by the...

Stanford
I am at college! It has begun. I drove up monday, and moved in on tuesday. Yesterday was filled with panels about picking classes, during which i realized I wanted to take all of them. My first class list had 25 units. Needless to say, I am fixing it. But its so HARD to fix. I want to take Chem, Physics, Math, IHUM, and an introductory seminar. Computer Science too, but i have given up on that....

Shazam
I recently got an iPhone, and one of the many ways it has improved my life is with a little app called Shazam. It will listen to any music i hear on the go and tell me the title and artist. Rather useful since i am often not listening to a station long enough to hear what the song was. I have been using it a lot, and I am going to start posting the tags that it gives me as both a remembering tool...

The Album Project (A Periodic Checkin)
I got tired of posting about every album I listened to. Instead I have been keeping a list, and today on the 5-week mark I am going to post it. I broke my rules twice during that span. First, one of the albums was a mix cd given to me by a friend and not really representative of an LP or EP. Secondly, I listened to a second album by Girl Talk, violating my new artist every day rule. OH WELL....
I’m sorry. I have a bit of a head cold today, so I sound like a bit of a...

Franco & Le Tout Puissant OK Jazz - Franco & L'OK...
This was a complete change of pace (btw will be listening to Iron and Wine tomorrow evening). Utterly chill, I really liked it. Not much I can say about individual songs. Really relaxing, Congolese music. I am not sure how i ended up listening to it, but it was a wonderful departure from what I normally listen to. I strongly recommend this album. I have NO IDEA how to rate it, since it is...
Vexation
Can I just say that I am not a huge fan of this banner at the top of the tumblr page advertising gary vaynerchuck? I like the idea, but perhaps it would be less annoying if there were more than one sponsered blog and if the color of the ad werent bright red (in this case i presume it is supposed to be wine red…).
Day 5: Vexillology by Deadmau5
I liked this album, but it was not my favorite. It seems like something that works better in the background, i had trouble just listening. I also listened to a single by Deadmau5 called The Reward is More Cheese that was easily better than any one song on this album. Techno/House but without the complex layering that made Vicious Delicious so great in my mind.

Bounce: 4.5 Stars

Rise Against - Appeal To Reason
This album is a little bit out of the spectrum of music I usually listen to, but I really enjoyed it. I am really tired though, so i am just gonna put out some numbers and fill in a real post tomorrow.

Lowest Rated Song: Hairline Fracture - 3 Stars

Day 3: Vicious Delicious by Infected Mushroom
Jason and I decided to go for something a little bit more upbeat and techno than our past 2 days, so we went with the electronic Vicious Delicious, by Infected Mushroom. Overall it was my best experience with the project thus far. 9/10. It falls short of because i found its last 2 songs less than inspiring, but judging only by the first 9 songs it might be rated even higher. Second time through I...

Music Review: Day 1&2
Jason and my opinions lined up quite well for these first two days, with the overall ratings being the same. I really liked the overall sound of the Fray quite a lot but found a lot of the songs blended together, with the real standouts being Say When and You Found Me.
I liked the Kings of Leon significantly less overall; my first reaction when starting the album were to cringe at the voice of...

After school today, Ben, Bobby, Jason, and I went over to Adam’s house. We went over to his house to hang out before the school play tonight, and we essentially planned this on twitter. I had semi-jokingly suggested we do the bacon-weave with cheese on twitter, which motivated Jason to come even though he wasn’t staying for the play.

Lexulous obsession.
So lately I and several of my friends have been obsessed with Lexulous, the more legal successor to scrabulous. I highly recommend it, and anyone that wants to take me on, I am game. I have been doing fairly well overall, though I admittedly do not win nearly every game. It has 8 letters instead of 7, the distribution and value of tiles has changed, and the special squares are shifted, but it...

My Bloody Valentine 3D
So Adam, Bobby and I just saw my bloody valentine 3D, and I want to share a few of my thoughts. First, the 3D glasses were very impressive. They seem to filter out a certain portion of light each to allow for the 3D image from the double, but when wearing them normally you actually see normally (except the screen on bobby’s phone freaked out, and looking at other people wearing the glasses...

Tracy Jordan: So how bad is Diabetes, really?
Dr. Spaceman: It's quite serious. If left untreated, you could lose a foot!
Tracy Jordan: Could I replace it with a wheel, like Rosie, from the Jetsons?
Dr. Spaceman: I suppose... but then, you'd have to register as a motor vehicle.

Welcome to the Blogosphere, Bob Kaz
Check out my friends new blog, achievement unlocked, which is going to be a blog of his life in gaming. As far as gaming goes, he is pretty much the best I know… Competing against him, as a not really hardcore per se gamer, is suicide. Thus we coop :). Seriously though, follow him, enjoy his thoughts, prosper. The blagosphere has been enlarged.

The Case for The Linux Netbook
I have been thinking a lot, lately, about what I really do with my computer, and I have pretty much realized that, as far as mobile use goes, I would probably be happy with a netbook, so long as I could be assured of having desktop access when the going gets rough (I do processor heavy simulations as part of my research assistant job, I work with my photographs, and I like to PC game).
Let me...
