    Day 3: Vicious Delicious by Infected Mushroom

    Jason and I decided to go for something a little bit more upbeat and techno than our past 2 days, so we went with the electronic Vicious Delicious, by Infected Mushroom. Overall it was my best experience with the project thus far. 9/10. It falls short of because i found its last 2 songs less than inspiring, but judging only by the first 9 songs it might be rated even higher. Second time through I loved the last 2 songs.

    My favorite song on the album was easily Becoming Insane. I thought it was good for the first bit, but around 4 minutes in it builds into a completely different and far better song that carries for the final 3 minutes, and that section was far and away my favorite song on the album. I also really liked Artillery, though it was different than a lot of the songs on the album; it had a mix of electronic and rap that I like quite a bit and hear a lot in the nerdcore I listen to occasionally. The next song, Vicious Delicious, is back to the style of the rest of the album, and quite a bit of fun. It builds into a nice high-intensity song by the end. Heavyweight is next. This is the only song I had heard before today rom the album, and it is very good. It has a much more relaxed overall feel, with a slower beat and less of an explosive build. It traverses a lot of different music over the course of almost 9 minutes, so that it would almost make sense to talk about different parts of the song (I enjoyed it most in the 2-5 minute range…), and I found myself drawn in the the progressing music like listening to good trance. Suliman, the next track was also quite good, but nothing special. I thoroughly enjoyed the next two songs, Forgive Me and Special Place, though Special Place didnt really get good from my perspective until a minute or two into the song, while Forgive Me started very good. Nonetheless, Special Place had amazing intensity builds throughout the song that significantly raised the energy of the album and brought it back into focus for me 7 songs in. In Front Of Me came next and slowed everything down after the quick pace of Special Place. It was closer to a rock song than other part of the album (although it wasn’t really rap). Eat It Raw was pretty straightforward electronic, but it was very well done. The final two songs, Change The Formality and Before, were good electronic but didnt really draw me in; this might be mitigated by the fact that I had already listened to an hour of Infected Mushroom leading up to it, but i found that other songs in the album were able to pull me in much better. Change The Formality had some quite fun parts, but I found Before wholly unremarkable overall. Not something I was going to skip, but not fantastic either. {Edit: I listened to Change The Formality and REALLY liked it this time. I think I was just worn out last time. Score changed accordingly. Also scored up Before slightly, as it was not nearly so underwhelming the second time.}

    Rankings:

    Becoming Insane: 5

    Artillery: 5

    Vicious Delicious: 5

    Heavyweight: 4.5

    Sullivan: 3.5

    Forgive Me: 4

    Special Place: 4.5

    In Front Of Me: 3.5

    Eat It Raw: 4

    Change The Formality: 3.5 4.5

    Before: 3 4

    Overall: Extremely enjoyable 9/10. Gapless album makes it seem like listening to one extremely well done techno mix. This will be an album I listen to regularly.
